One of the great promises of the cloud was to give us the freedom to spin up new instances without having to worry about the costs of infrastructure. Yet as great as pay-as-you-go sounds, it doesn’t help control your cloud spend. And mishaps happen, even to the best of us. A few years back, Pinterest…
The outbreak of the pandemic has accelerated cloud adoption, also unleashing the growth of DevOps. IDC predicts that its market will grow by the end of 2022 from $2.9 to $8 billion. Puppet’s report found that almost 85% of decision-makers have used DevOps tools in their organisations. According to the study, the framework has evolved to…
With cloud adoption rates going through the roof, it’s only a matter of time before the number of security breaches shoots up. 93% of respondents in RedHat’s 2022 State of Kubernetes experienced at least one security incident in their container environments in the past 12 months. Many of these events resulted in losing customers or…
Containers are all the hype. Gartner predicts that by the end of 2022, more than 75% of organisations will be running containerised applications in production. The rise of containers has gone hand in hand with another trend – container orchestration. According to Datadog, almost all containers are now orchestrated, with Kubernetes used by over half…
Our DevOps team leader, Mateusz, promised to address a burning subject: microservices and containers. Here is his viewpoint. According to Statista, in 2021, 85% of large organizations admitted that they use microservices, and 14% confirmed plans to introduce them in the future. But before I jump into discussing it in detail, I’d like to refer…
Gartner predictions say it out and clear. In less than three years, enterprise spending on public cloud computing will overtake spending on traditional IT. But if you’ve been in business for a while and have relied on on-prem infrastructure, you may observe the cloud rush with scepticism. With security breaches happening all over, skyrocketing costs,…
Cloud computing seemed like a silver bullet to soaring IT costs. But unfortunately, when switching to the cloud, businesses sometimes have to wait to see savings. Some even end up spending more than they would on on-prem systems. Much of this confusion stems from myths surrounding cloud service pricing. The idea was simple. By moving…
Many years of industry experience change how you look at infrastructure as code (IaC). When trying to come up with an appropriate comparison, I found this perspective could be relevant. An IT specialist born in 1990 has a very different outlook on apps and tools available in 2022 than, let’s say, someone born in 2003. …
With a compound annual growth rate of 17.9%, the cloud computing platform market is expected to reach $1240.9 billion by 2027. The cloud has unquestionably become the go-to solution for businesses looking to cut costs while enhancing the scalability, flexibility, and security of their operations. Apart from these benefits, cloud computing can also help make companies…
Albert Einstein once said, “We can’t solve problems by using the same thinking we used when we created them”. Choosing a database for your system can feed into both the problem and solution part of the equation. You will know this well if you’ve ever experienced unpredictable traffic or struggled with excessive costs despite low…
